medicinal chemistry
Book Description: )
Mass Spectrometry in Drug Discovery summarizes the theory, instrumentation, techniques, and application of mass spectrometry and atmospheric pressure ionization to screening, evaluating, and improvingthe performance and quality of drug candidates. It provides time- and cost-efficient approaches for the generation and analysis of effectivepharmaceuticals, covers advances in combinatorial chemistry, molecular biology, bioanalysis automation, and computing, and demonstrates the use of mass spectrometry in the assessment of disease states, drug targets, and potential drug agents.

Fullerenes and nanotubes are two classes of carbon structures or allotropes, which were discovered about 17 years ago. Since that time, many chemical derivatives have been synthesized using fullerenes and nanotubes as building blocks.
Particularly promising was the theory that the chemical properties of fullerenes, and certain derivatives, made them likely candidates for anticancer drugs, inhibitors of viruses such as HIV, or even as anti-bacterials. Their cyctotoxicity can also be controlled by specific circumstances.
In addition, the funtionalization of nanotubes has not only produced relatively simple derivatives, but also complex hybrids with biological macromolecules, which show unique supramolecular architecture and which are promising in many medical applications.

Methods and Principles in Medicinal Chemistry: Microwaves in Organic and Medicinal Chemistry
The authors of this guide are experts on the use of microwaves for drug synthesis as well as having much experience in teaching courses held under the auspices of the American Chemical Society and the IUPAC. In this handy source of information for any practicing synthetic chemist they focus on common reaction types in medicinal chemistry, including solid-phase and combinatorial methods. They consider the underlying theory, latest developments in microwave applications and include a variety of examples from recent literature, as well as less common applications that are equally relevant for organic and medicinal chemists. An indispensable reference for researchers with an affinity to modern methods.

Burger's Medicinal Chemistry and Drug Discovery, 6 Volume Set
With expanded content from 69 chapters to over 100 chapters, this sixth edition of Burger's Medicinal Chemistry and Drug Discovery includes more than 50ew material. An entire section has been dedicated to cancer research. Areas included are those at the foreground of life science including:
* Proteomics
* Genomics
* Bioinformatics
* Combinatorial Chemistry
* High-Throughput Screening
* Blood Substitutes
* Allosteric Effectors as Potential Drugs
* COX Inhibitors
* Statins
* High-Throughput Pharmacology
* and More.
The new sixth edition of Burger's Medicinal Chemistry and Drug Discovery is a Memorial Edition to Professor Alfred Burger who published this major reference work in the first edition as "Medicinal Chemistry" in two volumes in 1951. Dr. Burger's research focused on analgesics, antidepressants and chemotherapeutic agents. He is one of the few academicians to have a drug, designed and synthesized in his laboratories and brought to market. Dr. Burger's contribution to the fields of medicinal chemistry and drug discovery are well renowned and documented. He received the Louis Pasteur Medal of the Pasteur Institute and the American Chemical Society Smissman Award.
